Since I closed my doors on the 23rd March temporarily for Stage 3 restrictions, I have had plenty of time to contemplate, think and plan for a very different future. What will it look like for me? What will the future look like for all of us? Will social distancing be the new normal in a public space? What does it mean for the road safety education sector?
What’s happening with testing at Vic Roads?
As some of you may be aware, Vic Roads have still been doing tests for some people who have applied for exemptions, but these tests are being conducted in Vic Roads vehicles, not instructor cars or your own, at the moment. Fingers crossed, we’ll have some more info to reveal before the long weekend. But, what does the foreseeable future look like now that driving lessons are allowed?
The transition back to lessons
Planning my return, which commenced on the 1st June has meant a fresh approach on how I will handle having you, my clients in my vehicle for the coming months ahead, particularly with social distancing impossible in the car! I have been working on the transition back to lessons for a while, which includes some new protocols such as a rigorous cleaning regime to keep myself, my family and just as importantly, yourself safe while we live in these concerning times, have been put in place. Other important information will be rolled out as required.
What do these changes look like?
They include:
- Asking you for honesty if you’ve been in touch with someone recently who has been infected to show consideration in cancelling your session.
- I will be supplying sanitiser and latex free disposable gloves for you to wear in my car between each session
- I will also be wiping down all exterior and interior touch points with disinfectant between all sessions
- Car will be sprayed with Glen 20 at the conclusion of each day
- When I arrive, please wash your hands before leaving your home, I will meet you with sanitiser and gloves to put on before opening the car door
- All clients will be asked to supply their own face masks
- I will have moisturiser in the car if required because as we know, sanitiser can be very drying
- And repeating, if you feel unwell, even if there is only one hour until your session, please don’t hesitate to cancel
What can we do as a collective to ensure our community stays safe?
When out in the general community, ensure we are keeping our distance from those around us. I know it is not always possible, particularly if in busy shops. Please also respect retail workers. They want to stay safe as well and cannot help if certain products are missing or shelves are empty. Start carrying your own little bottle of sanitiser with you, and possibly disposable gloves and masks if this reassures you.
